Founder & Publisher, The Beacon
I founded The Beacon to build a new model for nonprofit local journalism in Kansas and Missouri, raising $5.5 million in launch funding through grants, major gifts and membership and building the board, team and infrastructure behind two newsrooms.
JOURNALISM
My career began with reporting.
Before becoming a founder and nonprofit executive, I was an investigative and data journalist covering health care, government and accountability. At The Kansas City Star, I was part of the team named a 2018 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Public Service.
